ITINERARY & ENTERTAINMENT

Social: Made up of 11 different villages, La Plagne has a multitude of bars and night hotspots to choose from. Each village has it’s own unique style, identity and character and the best are accessible until the early hours by local bus. The busiest parties happen in Plagne Centre (where of course, GO Mammoth Snow are based) and Belle Plagne next door. Straight off the slopes and into the bar. We have a great line-up of extraordinary après-skis parties from sipping cider at the infamous La Luna, playing games of beer pong and flip cup in Scotty’s to the packed dance-floors of Le Saloon and Le Switch. Scavenger descents, half-pipe freestyling and fancy dress challenges, GO Mammoth provide an exclusive and truly unforgettable week.

Day 1: On arrival in the resort you’ll be able to check-in anytime from 8am, once you’ve had time to relax you’ll be placed in a ski/snowboard group depending on your skill or level of experience. We’ll then head to the equipment store downstairs to get kitted out. The afternoon is yours to hit the slopes.

At 6pm it’s time to get to know your snow pals and meet your GO Mammoth reps. Once we’ve talked you through the itinerary for the week it’s then time for dinner.

Day 2 – 7: The rest of the week is a mixture of tuition/guide sessions, exclusive GM activities and free days to explore the mountain slopes. Each day you can opt to take a packed lunch with you and eat on the mountain or you can return to base for a hot lunch, it’s totally up to you!

Find out more

In true GO Mammoth style our fully qualified French instructors take their jobs and your safety very seriously whilst also making sure your having a great time.

There are 5 different levels of ski and snowboard instruction/guide groups; beginner, improver, intermediate, advanced and expert. So whether you have never skied or boarded before or have grown up on snow or perhaps done a few seasons there is a level perfect for you.

Beginner – This is your first time ever. If you have never put skis/a board on before either on snow or on a dry slope, you will need to sign up for the beginner course. The programme consists of 23 hours tuition rather than the 12 hours stated for all other levels, so you receive nearly double the usual tuition time (at a very small extra cost!). The instructors simply think that beginners need a little more time dedicated to them to maximize their chance of improvement, but not to worry,  you will still have plenty of free time to relax and practice with friends! Simply add the course on your booking at check-out.

Improver – You have skied/boarded once before or a couple of times when you were younger and bounced. You can tackle green slopes with confidence, maybe even some blue runs, and you’re ready to boot-up and revisit. You are confident getting down easy runs and you want to build confidence on your parallel, learn to control your speed and direction and attack some steeper slopes.

Intermediate – You have skied several times before. You can control your speed and direction on blue slopes. You tackle red slopes when the terrain is smooth but with more difficulty when it is lumpy.  Time to test your limits and skills in a super supportive and helpful environment, if you’re not pushing, you’re not improving.

Confirmed – You have grown up on the snow or done a season, comfortable on most runs. You are making progress at controlling your skis on all slopes in the area even if you are less comfortable on more uneven terrain (lumps, ice, powdery snow). You want some technique touch ups and an adrenaline fuelled guided tour around the slopes including some off piste challenges.

Expert – Powderheads. Fast, skilled and you hold your own on and off the piste. You are experienced enough to read the terrain and to adapt your technique to all situations: competition slopes, lumps, changes in snow conditions, off-piste. Push yourself, time to show what you have got as our instructor will take you to lots of secret places and on some of Europe’s hardest runs.

The 2/3 hour daily sessions of instruction aren’t like typical private lessons. You spend much more time with the instructor and the group therefore the learning is much less formal, less intense and more fun. Everyone is learning the same things at the same speed thus there is minimal waiting around and a natural support network around you.

Of course there is formal teaching, practicing and perfecting, but it’s more relaxed and there is plenty of free time to enjoy the mountain with mates or join the GO Mammoth reps.

THE ACCOMMODATION

Recently renovated and receiving a top comfort rating , the ski-in ski-out apartment block itself is ideally located right above a piste and is in a fantastic location in the middle of La Plagne centre with easy access to the bars, shops and services yet metres from the main lift.  It is a traditional large wood and stone chalet with basic but comfortable surroundings and all the usual amenities such as a panoramic dining room, ski/board room and excellent bar.

THE ROOMS

Your package is based on sharing a room with up to 3 other people (keeping groups together). Twin rooms are available for an additional fee but they tend to sell out first so please do get in touch quickly. All rooms are fully ensuite with personal shower and toilet facilities.

THE FOOD

The food is served buffet style each day.  Breakfast is yogurts, cereals, fruit juice, coffee and bread – don’t be surprised to see that the coffee, tea or hot chocolate is taken French style – a soup bowl!

Typically lunch is a picnic made up at breakfast time by the chefs (great choice of breads, meats, cheeses, pasta, salad, fruit, sweets etc).  The picnic lunch means maximum time on the mountains without spending a fortune on expensive mountain-side restaurants.  If the weather is bad or your group wants an easier day, then you can also return to the centre for a hot lunch (pastas, schnitzels, steaks and chips plus unlimited ice cream).

Dinner is a 4 course buffet – typically a salad bar style starter, choice of 3 or 4 main courses – most often including fish, cheese selection, fruit, dessert and ice-cream freezer.

Any special dietary requirements should be made known to us on your booking.  Generally vegetarians will find a wide enough choice within the buffet.

GENERAL INFO

On Sunday arrival, please check in anytime from 8am. Early check-in (6pm Saturday) is available for an additional fee, simply add this option on your booking at check-out. All guests will need to check-out by 1pm on Saturday.

THE RESORT

La Plagne’s huge ski area (excellent fast and modern lift system), beautiful villages and varied nightlife make it ideal for GO Mammoth to host an action-packed ski week!

The resort is not as well known as some of the other ski areas in France but with its picturesque villages and superb piste network it’s becoming increasingly popular. The resort is made up of 11 different villages in the Tarantaise region of France, each with their own look at feel from the efficient and purpose built centre to the traditional and picturesque outlying villages.  La Plagne centre where GO Mammoth Snow are based acts as a hub for the resort with the main lifts accessed here and a good range of shops and services. It is purpose built, well designed and a pleasant place to stay. All villages are easily accessible by free local bus or you can ski between them. The selling point – La Plagne is the whole package, it has a bit of everything.

APRES & NIGHTLIFE!

La Plagne Centre and neighbouring Belle Plagne offer the most trendy and lively apres ski of anywhere in the resort. To name a few…

In your boots:

+  Scotty’s – sun terrace, beer pong and popular beats.

+  Igloo Igloo  – live bands and fur rugs..

+  Le Luna– theme evenings with a host of spirits, wines and beers.

Early hours:

+  Le Saloon – dance into the wee small hours with great music.

+  Le Switch – lounge bar popular with locals and seasonaires.

THE SLOPES

The La Plagne ski area offers 225km of piste served by 109 lifts with a nice variety of skiing. With most of the skiing above 2000m and on mainly north facing slopes the conditions tend to be good throughout the season and it is regarded as a snow-sure resort. The lift system is very modern with continual investment in new lifts keeping queues to a minimum. There is a good spread of varied terrain for all ability levels from newbie skiers and snowboarders through to the expert, it is a fantastic resort for mixed ability groups.

The resort also has an exceptional snow-park which at 2.5 hectares is one of the largest in Europe. Known as the ‘7 Cube’ snowpark it has a full variety of features in varying difficulties as well as a great Board-X course. La Plagne also has a full size 90 half pipe located in Plagne Bellecote which is well worth checking out.

GETTING TO LA PLAGNE

La Plagne is relatively easy to get to but you need to plan ahead and work out the best options depending on your budget.

We recommend SkyScanner to find the best deal, choosing from the following airports:

  • Chambery (1.5 hours away)
  • Grenoble (2  hour away)
  • Geneva (2.5 hours away)
  • Lyon (2.5 hours away)

Transfers from these airports can easily be arranged through the providers below. We suggest Ben’s Bus who operate transfers to La Plagne from Grenoble, Geneva, Lyon and Chambery airports from £50pp.

By Coach:

By far the cheapest way to get to resort is with SnowExpress or Eurolines who both run a coach service from London.
