ITINERARY & ENTERTAINMENT

Social: Les Deux Alpes fulfills its reputation in contending for the title of best parties in the Alps and is often nicknamed the ‘Las Vegas of resorts’ (although the villages are certainly not as tacky as the nickname suggests and still retain a lot of charm). Straight off the slopes and into the bar. We have a great line-up of extraordinary après-skis parties from sipping cider and watching live sports events at the infamous Smokey Joe’s, playing games of beer pong and flip cup in Smithy’s Tavern to the packed dance-floors of L’Avalanche and L’Opéra. Scavenger descents, snow park freestyling and fancy dress challenges, GO Mammoth provide an exclusive and truly unforgettable week.

Day 1: On arrival in the resort you’ll be able to check-in anytime from 8am, once you’ve had time to relax you’ll be placed in a ski/snowboard group depending on your skill or level of experience. We’ll then head to the equipment store downstairs to get kitted out. The afternoon is yours to hit the slopes.

At 6pm it’s time to get to know your snow pals and meet your GO Mammoth reps. Once we’ve talked you through the itinerary for the week it’s then time for dinner.

Day 2 – 7: The rest of the week is a mixture of tuition/guide sessions, exclusive GM activities and free days to explore the mountain slopes. Each day you can opt to take a packed lunch with you and eat on the mountain or you can return to base for a hot lunch, it’s totally up to you!

Find out more

In true GO Mammoth style our fully qualified French instructors take their jobs and your safety very seriously whilst also making sure your having a great time.

There are 4 different levels of ski and snowboard instruction/guide groups; improver, intermediate, advanced and expert. So whether you have only hit the slopes once before or have grown up on snow or perhaps done a few seasons there is a level perfect for you.

***Please be aware, due to package restrictions we do not cater to complete beginner skiers or snowboarders in this resort (i.e. people who have never put skis/a board on before either on snow or on a dry slope). Please look at our Tignes or La Plagne trips. ***

Improver – You have skied/boarded once before or a couple of times when you were younger and bounced. You can tackle green slopes with confidence, maybe even some blue runs, and you’re ready to boot-up and revisit. You are confident getting down easy runs and you want to build confidence on your parallel, learn to control your speed and direction and attack some steeper slopes.

Intermediate – You have skied several times before. You can control your speed and direction on blue slopes. You tackle red slopes when the terrain is smooth but with more difficulty when it is lumpy.  Time to test your limits and skills in a super supportive and helpful environment, if you’re not pushing, you’re not improving.

Confirmed – You have grown up on the snow or done a season, comfortable on most runs. You are making progress at controlling your skis on all slopes in the area even if you are less comfortable on more uneven terrain (lumps, ice, powdery snow). You want some technique touch ups and an adrenaline fuelled guided tour around the slopes including some off piste challenges.

Expert – Powderheads. Fast, skilled and you hold your own on and off the piste. You are experienced enough to read the terrain and to adapt your technique to all situations: competition slopes, lumps, changes in snow conditions, off-piste. Push yourself, time to show what you have got as our instructor will take you to lots of secret places and on some of Europe’s hardest runs.

The 2/3 hour daily sessions of instruction aren’t like typical private lessons. You spend much more time with the instructor and the group therefore the learning is much less formal, less intense and more fun. Everyone is learning the same things at the same speed thus there is minimal waiting around and a natural support network around you.

Of course there is formal teaching, practicing and perfecting, but it’s more relaxed and there is plenty of free time to enjoy the mountain with mates or join the GO Mammoth reps.

THE ACCOMMODATION

The apartment block itself is located in the village of Venosc which has more character than neighbouring Mont De Lan as well as most of the bars and shops and less of the traffic. It is just 100 metres from the ski area and a couple of minutes walk from the town centre. It is a large traditional wood and stone chalet with basic but comfortable surroundings and all the usual amenities such as a dining room, ski/board room and bar. The restaurant is of particular note with a stunning terrace overlooking the Ecrins National Park. Plus, for a small cost it also has a sauna and jacuzzi for those that need a bit of pampering after a hard day on the hill, so bring your swimmers (the swimming pool in resort is also free with your lift pass)!

THE ROOMS

Your package is based on sharing a room with up to 3 other people (keeping groups together). Twin rooms are available for an additional fee but they tend to sell out first so please do  get in touch quickly. Each room has its own shower and sink ensuite with toilets located just outside in the corridor.

THE FOOD

The food is served buffet style each day.  Breakfast is yogurts, cereals, fruit juice, coffee and bread – don’t be surprised to see that the coffee, tea or hot chocolate is taken French style – a soup bowl!

Typically lunch is a picnic made up at breakfast time by the chefs (great choice of breads, meats, cheeses, pasta, salad, fruit, sweets etc).  The picnic lunch means maximum time on the mountains without spending a fortune on expensive mountain-side restaurants.  If the weather is bad or your group wants an easier day, then you can also return to the centre for a hot lunch (pastas, schnitzels, steaks and chips plus unlimited ice cream).

Dinner is a 4 course buffet – typically a salad bar style starter, choice of 3 or 4 main courses – most often including fish, cheese selection, fruit, dessert and ice-cream freezer.

Any special dietary requirements should be made known to us on your booking.  Generally vegetarians will find a wide enough choice within the buffet.

GENERAL INFO

On Sunday arrival, please check in anytime from 8am. Early check-in (6pm Saturday) is available for an additional fee, simply add this option on your booking at check-out. All guests will need to check-out by 1pm on Saturday.

THE RESORT

Les Deux Alpes superb and snow-sure ski area (it has the largest skiable glacier in Europe), beautiful villages and vibrant nightlife make it ideal for GO Mammoth to host an action-packed ski week!

The resort takes its name from the twin villages of Venosc and Mont de Lan which are linked by a 2km strip of road which is lined with buzzing hotels and bars. The area has officially been a ski resort since 1925 making it France’s second oldest resort (after Chamonix) and there has been quite a bit of development over that time. Whilst much of the resort is purpose built it has managed to retain much of its charm and pleasant environment. The selling point – Les Deux Alpes is a world famous party town with a really energetic atmosphere and a wealth of bars and clubs.

APRES & NIGHTLIFE!

Tignes & neighbouring Val d’Isere offer the most trendy, lively and varied apres ski of anywhere in the Alps. To name a few…

On the slopes:

+  The Folie Douce – world renowned on mountain action.

+  The Drop Zone – piste pints.

In your boots:

+  Saloon Bar – beer pong and popular beats.

+  Tom Crean’s Pub  – great for sports fans and a traditional Irish pub feel.

+  Loop Bar – sun terrace and live bands.

Early hours:

+  La Blue Girl – late night dancers and great music.

+  Melting Pot – fun, quirky and not for the faint hearted.

THE SLOPES

The ski area has a total of 60 lifts (including the world’s highest funicular and the world’s fastest gondola) which give access to 220km of piste, 1400ha of skiable off piste terrain, Europe’s largest skiable glacier and Europe’s largest snow park! There is a good spread of varied terrain for all ability levels from newbie skiers and snowboarders through to the expert, it is a fantastic resort for mixed ability groups. Les Deux Alpes is often called an ‘upside down’ resort with harder steeper skiing lower down and wide easy runs higher up on the glacier. It’s a great place to learn where beginners can enjoy the high mountain views and better snow conditions usually reserved for advanced skiers. For the experts there are plenty of challenging pistes with as many black runs as red runs and the off piste iis vast and varied including links to the infamous ‘La Grave’ ski area.

  • Grenoble (1  hour away)
  • Chambery (1.5 hours away)
  • Geneva (2.5 hours away)

Transfers from these airports can easily be arranged through the providers below. We suggest Ben’s Bus who operate transfers to Les Deux Alpes from Grenoble, Geneva, Lyon and Chambery airports from £50pp.

By far the cheapest way to get to resort is with SnowExpress or Eurolines who both run a coach service from London.

  • Local bus services run regularly from Grenoble to Les Deux Alpes (bus line 3030 will take you from Grenoble to Les Deux Alpes (via Bourg d’Oisans). Alternatively you can take a taxi but this is a rather expensive option!
